What is your goal?
Almost certainly your goal is to maximize the key four areas of your lives, which are to have more money, friends, happiness and health. This is because everyone else’s goal is the same. So in a society where the same motivates us all, why two people behave differently and ultimately get different results?
For example, some people go out and take action, while other people try to make the less possible and wait for things happen to them. We are all guilty of this in some areas of our lives.
My conclusion is that this happens because of how we set our goals. We can set our goals in two ways: positive and negative. A positive way of setting goals is for example to say that “I want to get more money”, while a negative way may be to say “I don’t want to lose money”. This sounds logical and of course everyone will say that ultimately they want the first (i.e., to make money), but they often behave in completely different way.
This was exactly what I concluded when speaking with a client, telling him to be almost delusional happy, and this person telling me that this was not possible, because that’s not how the world works. In this conversation with him I realized that people accept unhappiness in their lives because they either can’t accept that being always happy is possible, or because they see value of trying to protect themselves from unhappiness. This is however exactly what we said that should not do in case with money. We should always want to have more money, not to avoid losing it, because we are going to lose it anyway. We should instead want to be happy always, as much as we want to be rich always.
The difference is mindset and this is by no chance a small detail. To be happy today we have all the tools we need today, as much as to be rich today we also have all the tools today! Rich people and happy people just focus on increasing the value of respective objectives, rather than on focusing not to lose it all. The poor and depressed people want to be rich and happy people, but they just don’t believe it is possible, so they don’t even try.
And what about all the other parts of our lives? The same is true for health, friendship and any other part we may thing is important for us. The people who believe that they can, they just do and they receive the results. The people who don’t, they live in a magical world of “what if” and never receive this world because they never try.
Lets make a quick test to see how much we really believe that we will achieve everything that we want out of lives. Repeat these sentences and see whether it is easy or hard to pronounce them and whether you really believe them:
- I am beautiful
- I love myself
- I am rich financially
- I have many friends
- I am happy
- I am a healthy and young human being
- I am always full of energy
If it is hard for you to agree with these statements, probably you are thinking in a negative, rather than in a positive. The degree of how much you mind comes up with objections to the following statement is a degree that you don’t have these things and a degree of you never will have these things, until you change your believes.
Only by telling to yourself that you are beautiful, happy, rich and full of energy, only then will you have all these things, because before you can have anything in reality you must have it in your mind.
For example, my friend stopped smoking. He said that “I am not a smoker” and that’s how he stopped. The process would have been much more painful if he said “I want to smoke less”. If he did the later, he would probably still be smoking today.
So what are your goals? What is your goal towards happiness, money, friends and health? If you learned anything from this article is that you have it all today or that you will have it very soon.
