Talk about whether religion is correct or incorrect is an old topic, because majority of people already have made a decision on what they want to believe. Still, there is a bit more to say.
Disregarding whether a persons position on this topic is correct or not, I am very much interested in the topic of “blind faith”, both by believers and disbelievers.
Both believers and disbelievers make claims to whether the other part is correct or incorrect without really looking at the other persons point of view. Yes majority of people know a bit about other peoples points of view, but if they disagree with that point of view, they see a little need to actually do further research. They dismiss the opposing ideas as a complete “non-sense”.
And this is pretty much life.
In every other aspect of life we have things we agree with and things we disagree with. If we agree with them, we seldom look at opposite point of view, but to say that we are always correct is a mistake.
As we go through life we need to challenge our believes, some more harshly than others, and some things are easy to see as being correct or incorrect.
Still for some ideas we have investment. We have invested time, energy and often even money to prove ourselves right, so even if everyone else is saying we are incorrect, we may blindly go with our own idea, whether this behavior is correct or incorrect.
But is there a way to say that a single idea is correct or incorrect?
All ideas as both right and wrong, to a point. As a philosopher (who I don’t right now remember name) once said, we have to at least once try to measure the world in complete truths. What are the things that we can, 100% know to be correct?
For example, as idea can be: “eating fruits is health”. But what if a person is fructose intolerant? Eating a bite of fruit by a person who is fructose intolerant can lead to sever allergic reactions, which, if not attended properly, can lead to death. This ideas therefore is not 100% correct.
After analyzing all ideas in life, this philosopher concluded that the only thing we can be certain about in life is Math.
So, going back to Religion, is it correct or incorrect? Well, there are people on both sides convinced about correctness or incorrectness of their ideas, so to say that a certain point of view is correct does not hold 100% certainty. It seems that there is something to religion correct and incorrect at the same time.
How much of religions message and approach is correct? Is it 5%-10%-90%-95%?
I see religion as as a business and any good business wants to succeed. To this point, religion, like any other business, will try to promote itself in the best light possible and of course, as being as the most correct solution to a specific need. I case of religion the need is to understand the unknown (on this more later).
Religion will try to promote itself (market) by creating a “WoW” factor, which tries to make people into becoming fans of the cause, and religion, unlike other religions had 1000th of years to find a message that resonates with masses and to optimize its selling speech.
“WoW” has to be interesting, unexpected, to jump start imagination, essentially so a person does not get bored.
In a religion a “Wow” ideas has to be something that is advanced enough for a person not to understand it, that deals with the unknown and offer promises and the solutions to deal with the unknown.
If WoW is easy to understand, it will not be a good basis for a religion and religion will die out, even if what is said is correct.
Because the “WoW” factor of the religion is based on the same techniques that companies use to promote their products (because it is all business and marketing) the technique used to promote both are same, which the content of the message changes.
Every company on earth small or big will try to WoW peopl to make them believe that they need their products. This is why we hear Apple’s cult, McDonald’s nation, or Marvel fans.
All these brands are new religions.
What we see today is that selling the unknown is a very big niche. People want answers, and there will always be things that we don’t understand – the world is just too complex.
Still, everything else is also for sale today. So it is not what you sell, it is how you sell it, and as long as you do you Marketing right you can form a new religion.
