When I first heard that I don’t need to use shampoo, I was skeptical. At that time I was using shampoo almost daily and felt that my hair was fragile and greasy. I was afraid that if I would stop using shampoo altogether that my hair would start falling out.
Fast forwarding five years to today, I use shampoo perhaps once or twice per month. My hair hasn’t fallen out and, in fact, it looks and feels healthier than even.
Don’t get me wrong. I still take showers on a regular basis, but I only use water to clean myself. I also wash my hands with soap and brushing my teeth. These three things are essential to maintaining a healthy and prosperous living, but same can’t be said for many other products.
Unfortunately, shampoo is just another product that works on the same principle as we saw with cigarettes. In a short-term, we get a positive result in form of pretty and fluffy hair. However, in a long-term, we do more damage than benefit as it makes our hair fragile and dried up. This is, shampoo removes natural protective oils that are supposed to protect our hair and replaces them with less natural and perhaps less healthy oils that cannot protect our hair as well.
Additionally, human beings, as well as other creatures, have been walked the earth for millions of years and didn’t use shampoos until very recently. Despite all that, we had healthy and beautiful skin and hair. And while for some people, in some situations, such as me once or twice per month, washing hair is still important, it is still an act that marketing has wrongly taught us to do in our lives, and which consequently we want to stop.
Even taking showers daily isn’t necessary. Some people think that they need to take them with frequency because they get sweaty because we think it helps us wake up, remove daily stress, or warms us up or refreshes us, depending on our daily temperature. Still, not every type of sweat is bad. If you took a shower recently, it is likely that you have a “clean sweat”. Indeed, if we are a healthy, if we eat well, exercise, maintain a balanced lifestyle, and keep a positive attitude, we should be fine going without a shower for several days. All the other benefits of a regular shower can also be achieved in other healthier ways, which don’t damage or make weak the protective layers of our bodies.
Indeed, many health experts will attest if favor of not using shampoo, shower gels, cosmetic, and other body cleaning products. The only reason why we will not hear their advice is because they cannot compete with multi-billion dollar industry, which is so powerful it can convince us of almost anything in our lives.
