Marketing TV Series Review – Shark Tank

Shark Tank is a show about investment.

Few people come on the show and try to sell their business ideas to a group of legendary investors (aka sharks) who than decide whether the idea is good or not.

This show is appealing to me as much as for everyone else because I am interested to see which business ideas will get accepted and which will be rejected.

I am interested to see what new thing exist or will exist in the world because maybe I can learn something and become a next person with a bright idea. I am interested in seeing how sharks think and are making their decision and to try to understand their logic (which of course I don’t).

I watch Shark Tank because I want to be successful myself and relaxing while learning is a good way to live your life.

I do get some negative feedback about the show as well.

First in the back of my mind there is an idea that I am wasting my time. Surely the show is great but I can be doing more productive than this with my life. This comes from idea that I do watch too many TV shows so eventually this time accumulates into years of time I will never get back.

Additionally, I can say that I am wasting my time because I’m not interested in investing. Plain and simply, I don’t have money to do it, nor do I have time or motivation to learn how to do it today.

Some people will say in regards to it: “financial investment is important” or “if you want to be rich you need to understand money”. Both arguments are true, but again if I am to run after 2 rabbits I will lose both of them. In other words, some things in life I value more than studying investment and I will invest in them rather in investment itself.

After all, there are just to many distractions in life and people tend to follow them all. In result, people don’t get to do anything and “they live in a quite desperation” (quote of Henry David Thoreau).

Lastly, watching this show shows me how much waste there is in the world (aka materialism). Some of these inventions are plain useless. They satisfy some needs and people will buy them, BUT the true question for me is whether people should buy them in the first place.

(Related shows I have the same opinion about are Dragons Den and The Apprentice).
